On June 13-15, 2007 SMS presented an early version of its test-bed at the 18th meeting of the Wireless World Research Forum (, in Espoo, Finland. The demonstration showed a rich set of components (mostly realized using JAVA J2ME midlets) running on a set of mobile phones and interacting with server based components (hosted on PCs). The demo included: :

  • Applications for indoor and outdoor navigation using different localization technologies (GPS, zigbee localization).
  • Applications that exploit positioning information (i.e. presence services enhanced with maps showing position of friends in real-time; maps with points of interests in the nearby…).
  • Applications to show and edit the MEM (Mobile Electronic Memos). The MEM is a new concept to handle and exchange information about places (like shops, restaurants, buildings, monuments), people, services, events. This information can be shared among users and applications in a very easy way, both on mobile devices and on PCs.
  • Wrappers to existing web based services, in which the interaction with the user is optimized for a fruition on the mobile device.
  • “Physical mobile interaction” applications (e.g. recognition of visual tags and RFID).
  • Interaction with SIM using the SIM web server approach.

In the same occasion, SMS presented two papers:

R. Walker, G. Bartolomeo, N. Blefari-Melazzi, S. Salsano: "MEMsMobile Electronic Memos: efficient information capture and sharing for mobile users.

G. Bartolomeo, F. Martire, S. Salsano, N. Blefari-Melazzi: "Simple Mobile Services, a Service Creation Architecture for Mobile Services".
